New Years Day Ride 2017

Happy New Year everyone.

What a terrific way to begin the new year. Temperatures of - 12C, sunshine and lots of powder.
8 riders started their new year off doing what they love! A big welcome to our new rider, Vic.

Met at the Wavey Lake Road, then off to Cow Camp. Some of us hadn't been in that area in years due to logging activity.

From there, we rode to "Pickup Lake". Don't know what the lake is really called but regardless of the name, there was lots of powder.

Then we were off to Hager Mountain breaking trail through the deep powder. Absolutely no base so you just had to keep the power on. For those of us who haven't been riding in some time, after a few minor stucks, it was "game on".  Lunch was at our usual stopping place on the knoll.

Our leader was first to check out some higher ground. Not recommended until we get more snow to cover the obstacles.

Lots of minor "stucks" throughout the day. We had just been talking about the term "ditch pickle", so the photo above illustrates that term!

Made it up to "the burn". This was the first of many stops on that trail to cut trees. Riding at the back has it advantages. The trail is not cleared through to Deka yet. Another day.

Knowing how to do the back stoke is helpful.

Hager Mountain Ride - Sat Feb 23rd

We should have Earl and Michelle plan all of our rides.  Not only did they provide us with great weather but the snow conditions were incredible.
14 riders set off from Deka Lake for a ride via the Windy Mountain Road and the "burn" area trail to Mt. Hager.

8200 Road Loop Ride

A perfect sledding temperature of about -5 C encouraged 14 sledders to meet at the 8200 Road junction on Sunday, Feb. 3rd.

The ride was perfect for big sleds, small sleds, old sleds and new sleds.
Norm (who knows the back country so well) led our group on a big loop.  First stop was Cougar Lake.  No one ventured onto it due to the wet conditions.

We continued on the unplowed logging roads with great snow conditions.

We backtracked a little, and then made our way to Hager Mountain for lunch.

Hennie & Ken had a hot pot so enjoyed hot sausage rolls for lunch (without sharing)!!

After lunch, we made our way to the "burn" area.  We had to cross a slushy swamp but lucky everyone kept the power on and made it through.

We went part way up the Windy Mountain trail joining back onto the 8200 Road and then out to where we started the day.  Just over 100 kilometres of riding....a little shorter than anticipated.  As usual, an excellent ride.
