More sledding fun

Thursday, Feb. 27th ride from Opax north of Highway 24. Logging in this area will be starting soon so that means plowed roads.

8 riders took advantage of the snow. When we started out from Opax, it was like a freeway. So many other riders had been in before us. Lucky for us, we still have some secret trails to areas no other sledders had been into. Another reason to join the club.

Saturday's ride. Temps of -29C north of town and -19C at Opax. Still a cold start.

The forecast for warmer afternoon weather inspired 10 riders to come out and play before the next polar vortex.

HIghway 24 North

On Tues. Jan. 21st, we met at Opax to explore trails and clearcuts on the north side of Hwy 24.  We had good weather and to our surprise, really good snow conditions.

4 polaris, 6 doos and 2 cats are ready for some fun.
 

Logging is providing more and more clearcuts to play in!

We explored a lot of back roads, lakes and clearcuts, with the lakes being in good shape.  I'd be more specific about where we went, but I wasn't riding near Norm to get an overview of where we were!!!  Great day, as always but hopefully more snow is coming for future rides.

Hager Mountain Ride

On Sunday, January 6th, Earl and Michelle led the ride of 15 sleds on a loop starting out at the Opax parking lot.

Greg had some great energy and was anxious to get riding on his "modified" sled.

Never mind the modified sled, I think some of us could use a modified body
 to perform this well.

The snow conditions were pretty good even after the holiday traffic on the trails.

Bring on the snow.

We decided to head on to Hager Mountain via Deer Lake with a few kilometres of riding on plowed logging roads (groan), but at least those of us riding at the back were entertained by Greg's riding abilities.  You learn not to follow Greg's tracks, especially when you see him airborne!!

We had a quick lunch break at Hager Mountain since it was snowing like mad.  The visibility was terrible so most of us didn't venture too far.  We then took a different trail back to cow camp with only a few mishaps.  We discovered the importance of a tool kit and an emergency starting strap in case of a broken starter cord.  Another good reason to be riding in a group.  Then it was onto the Wavey Lake Road and back to the Opax parking lot.  As always, its great to be "out and about" on the sleds.

  

Lots of Snow

 

Some of us couldn't wait for the club's first scheduled ride.  On December 22nd, 9 riders met at the Opax parking lot to check out the snow on the Monticola side of the highway with a few riders  testing out their new sleds.  Norm had his trusty chainsaw and put that to work clearing the trail to cow camp.  I think we packed a good base into there now.  As you can see from the photo below, there's lots of snow!!
